![]() Ok, the storyline was meh, but so are most dance movies. I had seen Channing in “ Step Up,” so I knew he could dance, but seeing these two movies, loosely inspired by his life as a male stripper while living in Tampa, FL, were not half bad. It was not until I accidentally ran across a clip of “ Lip Sync Battle” with Channing Tatum doing Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls)” and Jenna Dewan ( his then wife) doing Ginuwine’s “Pony” with choreography from Magic Mike that I thought … it might be worth watching the movies. So when the movie Magic Mike and later Magic Mike XXL came out with Channing Tatum, I passed on seeing either movie. It was the first and last time I went to that particular club. I was coerced into going to one of the male strip clubs with one of my female friends in a trade-off that we would head to a real dance club afterward. My first exposure to a Male Strip Club was in Houston, TX, around age 18. They stand and pose and flex their muscle. Being a classicly trained ballet dancer and probably in the 95th if not 99th percentile when it comes to dancing ability and know-how, my biggest complaint about male “ dance” shows is that they are NOT dancing. I’m not too fond of strip shows-female or male. ![]()
